I was able to resurrect an old drive with a new logic card and got lucky enough to find these old Guestbook entries. There is a period from the end of February 2003 thru the end of April 2005 that was on a server that I do not have access to. Please, if you made an entry during that time, repost it.

Golf Co. March 68 to Sept.68 - Lt Morgan was our 1st.Lt. and he was one of the best. What a horrible day it was when we had to go into the mine-field on 881 south to extract the Marines. The pain of loosing Marines and especially seeing him so tore up. We lost to many Marines during the months I was there. The Sweed, at DaiDo, lams wah, 881s, pleas and the rest of our plt.it was a privilege to serve with them.

As a proud and grateful American, let me begin by saying that no nation on the face of the earth owes as much to or should be as proud of those men and women who served in it's armed forces. Many foreign armies have fought to repel invading armies from their own lands; But, our armed forces have rushed to the aid of many other countries in need. Not only have our armed forces secured liberty, freedom, and safety for those of us in the United States; but they have fought gallantly to preserve those values we hold in such high esteem for people of many nations. For all that you have given I say" THANK YOU". I write to you regarding my good friend and neighbor Ron Flores. Ron is a proud marine who served with the 2/4/fox third platoon from April of 1968 to December of 1968. On 12/12/68 Ron was wounded in action and sent back to the states. While Ron has found a couple of men from his unit, he would like to find more. In particular he would like to find Churchill (aka preacher).

Served with 2/4 '88-'91. Participated in "Operation Sharp Edge" West Coast of Africa. Pleasured to have served under Lt. Col J. Vargas (who many earlier 2/4 members served with) while I was stationed at Mt. Fuji, Japan in '88. Respectfully, Ned
Hi again. I did not realize at the time I was stationed at Mt. Fuji (1988-89)that 2/4 was the unit involved in the fire. My Senior Drill instructor in Boot Camp was SSgt Beyers or Byers ( I have to look at my year book) I now remember him telling our Platoon he was involved in the fire. Then my 1st duty station was at Fuji, where (as) I said I was under the command of J. Vargas. Then I was transferred to 2/4 at Lejeune. Funny coincidences I guess.
Did any one know Byers or Beyers while at Fuji? What were the circumstances of the fire? What was the date? If you did not know, there is a granite memorial dedicated to those who perished in the fire. I will have to do some digging through pictures , and maybe I can find a picture of the memorial at Fuji. Semper-Fi. Ned

I DO SINCERELY OFFER MY APOLOGIES TO THE WEBMASTER AND TO THE ASSOCIATION. MY HASTE TO VENT MY ANGER OVER THE FIRE AND THE WAY THE FACTS ABOUT THE FIRE HAVE BEEN CONVIENTLY FORGOTTEN MAKES ME LOSE MY COMPOSURE. PLEASE FORGIVE MY MISPLACED RESENTMENT. TO NED, THE FIRE WAS ON 10-19-79, SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 12:00 AND 13:00 HOURS. WE WERE BEING HIT BY TYPHOON TIP. AND AS I'M SURE YOU KNOW CAMP FUJI IS ON A SLOPE. THE FUEL BLADDERS WERE LOCATED AT THE TOP OF THE CAMP. THESE BLADDERS ARE TEMPORARY, LIKE BIG RUBBER BAGS SURROUNDED BY A DIRT BERM TO HOLD IT IN PLACE. THE LARGE AMOUNT OF RAIN ERODED THE BERM, ALLOWING THE BLADDER TO RUPTURE. THE FUEL RODE ON TOP OF THE WATER DOWN INTO THE BARRACKS PORTION OF THE CAMP. SOME OF THIS FUEL WENT INTO THE QUONSET HUTS AND WAS IGNITED BY THE PILOT LIGHTS ON THE HEATERS. THIS MADE THE FIRE SPREAD VERY FAST THROUGHOUT THE COMPOUND. WEAPONS COMPANY GOT HIT THE WORST, THEY HAD NO TIME TO REACT AND SUFFERED THE WORST. MY CLOSEST FRIEND ROGER A LARSON DIED A HORRIBLE DEATH THAT HAS HAUNTED ME DAY AND NIGHT EVER SINCE. I KNOW THERE IS A MEMORIAL THERE, I HOPE ONE DAY I CAN GO BACK THERE AND SAY A PRAYER AND A GOODBYE TO HIM AND THE OTHER 12. I HAD NO CHANCE TO DO IT THEN, I HAD TO WALK FIRE WATCH DURING THE MEMORIAL SERVICE. THERE ARE ALLOT MORE DETAILS ABOUT THAT DAY THAT I KNOW, MOST OF WHICH SHOW THAT IT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED WITH BETTER PLANNING OF THE CAMP LAYOUT, AND SOME OTHERS THAT WERE JUST THE BAD CONDITIONS OF THE CAMP AT THE TIME. THAT DAY WAS AWFUL, THE THINGS I SAW, THE SMELLS, AND THE SCREAMS WILL BE WITH ME TILL I DIE. I'M SORRY GUYS.

Michael,
Two things: 1. I hear your frustration. I've often been concerned that Marines of other eras might feel like they are being left out of the conversation. Please understand that from this Vietnam vets perspective it isn't so. I know what I, and half these other mugs did while we were in - Now I want to hear your story. Maybe we chatter so much amongst ourselves you don't feel like you can get a word in edgewise. I apologize for any time I have done that. It is important to me that you know that neither I, nor any other Nam vet I know, believe we did anything that you could not or would not do if called upon. And, personally, I don't care much for the distinctions that are made between those who have served in combat and those who haven't (yet). Admiral William "Bull" Halsey, wrote "There are no great men. Just great challenges which ordinary men (and women) out of necessity, are forced to meet."
We are all cut from the same bolt of cloth, Michael. Our allegiance is to God - Country - and Corps. We are all Marines.
2. Thank you for being man enough to come back and post an apology for the language you used to state your case. No virginal ears here, but as Jim pointed out, there are young'ns who read these posts as well.
I salute you for your contributions to our Marine Corps.
Semper Fi - Steve

I served with 2nd platoon, Echo Co.2nd Battalion 4th Marines from August 1965 to June 1966. Is our platoon commander, Lt. Gary Brown still alive? Last I saw him was after we pulled back in Operation "Texas", out of Chu Lai, VN.

I've thought and troubled over that for 38 years!!!! Great site! I've signed up to be a life member to help keep it going. Thanks to Jim Mazy for all the hard work to keep things running smoothly, and not letting things get out of hand. -Simper Fidelis-

Thanks for the effort and time you have put into this sight.I hope you fine more of our friend. It was good times and bad times. We that came home will never forget. For most a new battle had just begun. This new battle took too many by suprise, we were not prepaired for this fight and some lost more than others, but we all lost something. I was a PltCmdr with BCo,1/3 and OpCon to 2/4 for the Dai Do operation in April/May68. I wrote a short story aboput the operation and it was published on the "old 2/4 website" by Tom Williams. Since moving the web site the story was not moved, I (and others from BCo) can only wonder why. Are there any plans to move this story to the new website in the future? Please do not read into this question, as our concern is that BCo,1/3 was also a part of 2/4 during this hard fought battle in which every Marine was united in our mission and we all paid a high price for our victory. With Great Respect for our 2/4 Brothers, those here and in God's Hands. John D. Gavel

I was with Hotel 3rd Platoon from 1968 to 1969. I think you guys are great and have been on my mind ever since Vietnam. We had a firefight sometimes in June 1, 1968 while en route to assist G company by the Cua Viet River. During a frontal assault, one of the platoons on the left flank (maybe first platoon) was hit. Could anyone provide me some information of those involved that was hit pretty badly. L/Cpl Ruscigno and I went back and forth carring some of the wounded/dead men while under fire. I was wondering if anyone survived. If so, I would really love to hear from you just for info purposes. Former L/cpl Nelson, Ricardo.

Served with Echo Co.,2nd Bn., 4th Mar. from November 6, 1965 to December 6, 1965. I was W.I.A. in the village of Dong Qua(I think that's the right spelling), Quang Ngai province at 0130 hrs and lly was evacuted to BMED for surgery. Later after surgery, I was transferred to the U.S.Air Force hospital in the Philippines. On December 18, 1965 I was transferred to Bethesda Naval Hospital, which is in the state of Maryland, where I was treated for residuals severe shell fragment wound of the abdomen necessitating a laparotomy (descending colon) and because of bowel injury a left lower quadrant colostomy, which was later closed in the spring of 1966. I attended a Physical Evaluation Board at Bethesda Naval Hospital and was later informed that I was going to be placed on temporary disability retirement for 18 months, after which time I would be reevaluted. On December 1, 1968, after ten years service, I was placed on the Permanently Disability Retired List(PDRL) from the United States Marine Corps. I currently live in the metropolitan Washington D.C. area.

HI JIM, I AM SORRY I HAVE LOST CONTACT WITH YOU, BUT I LOST YOU ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER, PLEASE EMAIL ME I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU
Enjoyed a lot!
Letter to Editor; Marine Times I am not "outraged," as seems to be quite in vogue these days. No, I am "en-raged." As in Golden-Gloves-knock you-out enraged. Your big-splash, self-seving, and ultimately pointless "expose," re "What REALLY happened…Ramadi rooftop," succeeded in aptly illustrated why journalists are generally reviled and your publication, in particular, are held in distain by many Marines. For the sake of brevity let me provide some clarity. -I learned nothing from the article. And guess what, Geraldo? I DON'T NEED OR HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW. The only individuals who require any detail are the families of those brave Marines and the Marine Corps. -Through your opportunistic grave-robbing, with the help of the feckless NCIS ( The investigation would have been better executed by one Marine captain -----a "hit"?---this is WAR genius.), you have cast a pall over the combat record of one of the finest warfighting organizations on this planet. My son was, and still is, a machine-gunner in 2/4. I personally know those that that led him through that horrible period to include his battalion C.O. and SgtMaj; No better men ever drew a ramrod or fixed a bayonet. They brought many young men home alive. I am also personally associated with many of my son's peers (My honor, to be sure.). They, along with his leadership, are great, great men and I would match them against Marines of any era. For you to impugn them with your baseless tripe is infuriating. In sum, I say this. I think about those brave boys of that sniper team every day. EVERY DAY. I also think about Sgt Conde, Cpl Ryan, PFC Morris, L/Cpl Savage, PFC Lamont Wilson, Cpl Schrage, and all the other Marines of 2/4 who did not make it home. And you, in your long, slow climb to the journalistic bottom, have displayed not one whit of human decency or respect for heroism of the highest order. Bruce R Kelly LtCol USMC (RET)
Best regards from NY!
Would like to here from anyone who was in E 2/4from May to June 1968
Does anyone remember the second lieutenant in-charged of Hotel Co., 3rd platoon, during the firefight at the DMZ on December 11, 1968? If you do, please let me know, I would really appreciate it very much.
I HAVE NOT BEEN AT THIS SITE IN QUITE A WHILE, I HAD TO LET IT GO. THAT DAY IN OCTOBER OF 1979 HAVE HAUNTED ME TERRIBLY. I THANK GOD THAT NOW ALMOST 27 YEARS LATER I HAVE COME TO SOME TERMS WITH IT. I VISITED THIS SITE THE OTHER NIGHT, SAW THE MEMORIAL OF THE FIRE, AND CRIED LIKE A BABY, SO DID MY WIFE. I FEEL NOW THAT THESE YOUNG, BRAVE,HONORABLE MARINES ARE BEING RECOGNIZED. SACRIFICE COMES IN MANY WAYS, SOMETIMES OUT OF NOWHERE. AND OUT OF NOWHERE COMES HEROISM, COURAGE, AND THE BOND OF BROTHERHOOD THAT MAKES MARINES WHAT THEY ARE. SEMPER FI BROTHERS, I WILL NEVER, EVER FORGET THAT DAY.
From the webmaster... Yes Michael, it has been a long time since your last posted visit on Sept 8, 2002. I have often wondered what happened to you and prayed that you eventually found peace within as far as the tragedy of the Mt Fuji fire. PTSD comes in many different ways and from just as many different events...It must have been one hell of an experience to go thru and just as traumatic as any combat firefight.
Looking for Devildogs that I served with when 2/4 was in Camp Lejeune, N.C. It was a sad day in Cuba when we turned in our colors for that of 3/6. Ooooh rah Magnificent Bastards! Job well done..
