Artist’s rendition of how it would appear when erected on the path
The image above was created by Colonel Charles Waterhouse, USMCR (Retired). It shows a 2/4 riflemen and one machine gunner, of different eras, permanently etched onto four-inch thick granite panels. The monument will stand an impressive 8 feet tall at center.
The center panel is more than 3 feet wide and contains the figure of a present day 2/4 rifleman carrying the Stars and Stripes, depicting the unbreakable bond between Corps and Country. The side panels are smaller with the figures of pre -WW II, WWII, Vietnam and Desert Storm Marines. The arrangement of the figures depicts the fighting spirit and tradition of valor handed down from generation to generation. The center inscription says “The Spirit and Legacy of the Magnificent Bastards of the 2d Battalion, 4th Marines”. The 2/4 lineage is inscribed on the bottom of the side panels.
(Please see next sheet for a flat detail view of the monument)
